1. break out (of skin disease) — To break out or spread, used exclusively in the Priestly legislation (Leviticus 13-14) for the eruption and spreading of skin disease (traditionally leprosy/tsara'at) on the body. Distinguished from the homonymous parach I (to bud, sprout, blossom) by its medical-diagnostic context. Occurs as participle describing active eruption (Exod 9:9,10; Lev 13:42), perfect for completed outbreak (Lev 13:20,25,39), conjunctive perfect for conditional spreading (Lev 14:43), imperfect for prospective outbreak (Lev 13:12), and infinitive absolute intensifying the action (Lev 13:12). Arabic iftarasha (spread out), German ausbrechen (break out), Spanish brotar (erupt), Hindi phutna/phailna (burst/spread), Korean pieonada (bloom forth, used metaphorically).
