lame

Senses
1. lame Adjective describing a person or animal unable to walk properly due to injury or deformity of the legs or feet. Used as a disqualifying blemish for priestly service (Lev 21:18, paired with עִוֵּר 'blind'), for sacrificial animals (Deut 15:21, Mal 1:8,13), and descriptively of Mephibosheth who was lame in both feet (2 Sam 9:13, 19:26). Also in prophetic imagery: the blind and lame whom David's men despised at Jebus (2 Sam 5:6,8), the lame leaping like a deer in the messianic age (Isa 35:6), and the lame taking spoil (Isa 33:23). In Job 29:15, Job was 'feet to the lame.' Arabic consistently uses أَعْرَج (lame/limping), Korean 절다/절름발이 (to limp/cripple), Spanish cojo (lame), Hindi लंगड़ा (lame), French boiteux (limping). All auto-clusters (the lame, and lame, for the lame, from a lame man) are morphological variants of the same adjective with articles, conjunctions, and prepositions, representing a single lexicographic sense. 13×
