1. ten — The cardinal number ten, used as both masculine (עֲשָׂרָה) and feminine (עֶשֶׂר) forms in Hebrew, appearing in a vast range of biblical contexts: ages and genealogies (Gen 5:14, 16:3), counting (Gen 18:32, 24:10, 32:15, 42:3), measurements (Exod 26:1, 27:12), the Ten Commandments (עֲשֶׂרֶת הַדְּבָרִים, Exod 34:28, Deut 4:13, 10:4), tribal divisions, and temporal references. Also used with prepositions: כַּעֲשֶׂרֶת 'about ten' (Judg 3:29, Ruth 1:4, 1 Sam 25:38), מֵעֲשָׂרָה 'more than ten' (1 Sam 1:8, Eccl 7:19), and as a plural עֲשָׂרֹת 'tens' for administrative divisions of tens of people (Exod 18:21,25; Deut 1:15).
