En-Rogel — 'spring of the fuller,' a water source on the Judah-Benjamin border near Jerusalem
En-Rogel ('spring of the fuller' or 'spring of the foot') was an important water source situated at the boundary between the tribal territories of Judah and Benjamin, near the junction of the Kidron and Hinnom valleys south of Jerusalem. It served as a significant landmark in boundary descriptions (Josh 15:7; 18:16) and later played a role in the political intrigues of David's court, where Adonijah held his rival coronation feast beside it (1 Kgs 1:9) and where Jonathan and Ahimaaz waited as spies during Absalom's revolt (2 Sam 17:17).

Senses
1. sense 1 A named spring functioning as a geographic boundary marker and narrative landmark near Jerusalem. The compound name 'En' (spring) plus 'Rogel' (fuller/spy) appears in boundary delineations for Judah and Benjamin (Josh 15:7; 18:16) and in Davidic court narratives as a staging point for political intrigue (2 Sam 17:17; 1 Kgs 1:9). Multilingual glosses consistently render the compound: English/French/German 'En-Rogel,' Spanish 'En-Roguel.'
