Moisés reprende a Israel como un 'pueblo necio e insensato' que ha olvidado a su Redentor (Dt 32:6), mientras que el salmista clama a Dios contra una nación נָבָל que blasfema su nombre (Sal 74:18). Usado como sustantivo, designa a una persona cuya necedad es voluntaria y culpable, como cuando Abigaíl reconoce que el carácter de su marido corresponde a su nombre (1 Sam 25:25).
