Misrephoth-maim appears in Joshua's conquest narratives as a northern geographical limit. After defeating the Canaanite coalition at the waters of Merom, Joshua pursued the fleeing armies as far as Misrephoth-maim near Sidon. The name remains somewhat enigmatic—possibly referring to hot springs ('burnings of water') or smelting operations near water. Ancient traditions identified it with a site south of Tyre, though the exact location remains uncertain.
