A gathering or collection, especially of waters in one place
This creation-account term describes waters being gathered into one place, forming seas and allowing dry land to appear. Genesis 1 uses it for God's separation of water from land—the 'gathering of waters' he called Seas. The Exodus and Leviticus occurrences refer to collections of water, whether in Egypt's waterways or in a ritual pool. The term emphasizes accumulation in a bounded space—water gathered rather than dispersed, collected rather than flowing freely.
