1. sale, selling — The act or transaction of selling; a sale. Used of the sale of land and property in the Jubilee legislation (Lev 25:14, 25, 27, 28, 29, 33), where the noun refers to the transaction itself or the proceeds of selling. Includes construct forms (mimkar + genitive) and suffixed forms (mimkaro 'his sale'). Cf. Neh 13:20 where the sense transitions toward 'ware/merchandise' but the transaction nuance remains (Ezek 7:13 'the sale shall not return'). 9×

2. merchandise, ware — That which is sold; merchandise, wares, goods for sale. Distinguished from the transaction sense by referring to the concrete objects being traded rather than the act of selling. Attested in Neh 13:20 where merchants and sellers of 'all merchandise' (kol-mimkar) lodged outside Jerusalem, and possibly Neh 18:8 'his wares/sales' in a commercial context. 1×
