Mikhnas designates the linen undergarments prescribed for the Israelite priesthood, always appearing in the dual or plural construct form mikhnesei. These breeches were made of fine linen (bad or pishtim) and worn to cover the body from waist to thigh during sacred service. They appear in the investiture instructions (Exod 28:42; 39:28), the daily burnt offering regulations (Lev 6:10), the Day of Atonement rites (Lev 16:4), and Ezekiel's eschatological temple vision (Ezek 44:18). The garment ensured priestly modesty before the altar.
