1. dim, faded, faint — Adjective describing something that has lost its brightness, vigor, or intensity. Used of skin conditions in the priestly leprosy laws (Lev 13:6 if the spot is faded/dim; 13:21, 26, 28, 39 faint/dull marks on the skin; 13:56 the mark has faded), of dimming eyesight (1 Sam 3:2 his eyes had begun to grow dim), of a dimly burning wick (Isa 42:3 a dimly burning wick he will not quench -- the Servant of the LORD passage), and metaphorically of a spirit of heaviness/faintness (Isa 61:3 a garment of praise instead of a faint spirit). All occurrences share the core semantic field of diminished intensity, whether physical (skin, eyes, flame) or emotional (spirit). The singular and plural feminine forms are morphological, not semantic, variants. 9×
