Lóbulo/apéndice del hígado — el lóbulo caudado, protuberancia grasa quemada en el ritual sacrificial israelita
El sustantivo יֹתֶרֶת (yothereth) designa el apéndice o lóbulo del hígado, casi con certeza el lóbulo caudado, una proyección grasa fácilmente separable durante el despiece. Aparece exclusivamente en instrucciones sacrificiales, siempre en la frase «el yothereth sobre el hígado» (הַיֹּתֶרֶת עַל הַכָּבֵד). Este lóbulo se quemaba sobre el altar como parte de las porciones grasas ofrecidas a YHWH en holocaustos, ofrendas de paz y ofrendas por el pecado (Éx 29:13, 22; Lv 3:4, 10, 15; 4:9; 7:4; 8:16, 25; 9:10, 19). Su inclusión constante junto a los riñones y la cola grasa refleja la preocupación sacerdotal por especificar exactamente qué grasas viscerales pertenecían a Dios.
