Yozavad/Jozachar, servant who killed King Joash (2 Kings 12:21)
This theophoric name meaning 'Yahweh has remembered' belongs to one of the two conspirators who assassinated King Joash of Judah. He was the son of Shimeath the Ammonitess. The parallel account in 2 Chronicles 24:26 calls him Zabad, a shorter form. The assassination came after Joash abandoned the reforms of Jehoiada and shed innocent blood, including Zechariah the prophet. The conspirators' names ironically contain Yahwistic elements while they execute divine judgment on the apostate king.

1. sense 1 — One of King Joash's servants who conspired to murder him in retaliation for killing Zechariah the priest (2 Kgs 12:21; called Zabad in Chronicles). His Yahwistic name contrasts with his maternal Ammonite heritage, reflecting the mixed court of post-exilic Judah. 1×
