Tabeel, a Persian official in Samaria who opposed rebuilding Jerusalem
Tabeel was a Persian officer stationed in Samaria during the reign of Artaxerxes (Ezra 4:7). He joined Rehum and Shimshai in writing a letter accusing the Jews of sedition to halt the temple reconstruction. The name, probably Aramaic, may mean 'God is good' or possibly 'God is wise.' The Septuagint renders it Tabeel. His opposition represents the political resistance faced by the returning exiles.

Sentidos
1. sense 1 Ezra 4:7 lists Tabeel among the officials who wrote to Artaxerxes opposing Jerusalem's rebuilding: 'In the days of Artaxerxes, Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of their associates wrote to the king.' His role was administrative and hostile to the Jewish restoration. Cross-language glosses transliterate the name: Spanish 'Tabeel,' French and German preserve the Hebrew, English 'Taveel'—all identifying a foreign adversary.
