La cumbre sagrada de la cordillera del Antilíbano, el monte Hermón se eleva a casi 2.814 metros y servía como el gran punto de referencia geográfico del límite norte de Israel. Conocido por distintos nombres entre los pueblos vecinos — Sirión para los sidonios y Senir para los amorreos (Dt 3:9) —, sus tres picos podrían explicar el plural 'Hermones' del Salmo 42:6. Su perpetua capa de nieve alimentaba las fuentes del Jordán y lo convertía en símbolo de frescura y bendición divina (Sal 133:3).
