Harbona; Persian eunuch serving King Ahasuerus
Harbona was one of the seven eunuchs who served King Ahasuerus in the book of Esther. He appears first in Esther 1:10 among those commanded to bring Queen Vashti, and crucially in 7:9 where he informs the king about the gallows Haman prepared for Mordecai. His intervention leads directly to Haman's execution on those very gallows. The name appears to be Persian, possibly meaning 'donkey driver.'
Sentidos
1. sense 1 — Esther 1:10 spells the name חַרְבוֹנָא while 7:9 has חַרְבוֹנָה—minor orthographic variations of the same Persian name. In the latter, Harbona's timely information about the gallows turns the plot. French and German transliterate both forms. The character serves as an agent of poetic justice in the narrative. 2×
