Pedernal; piedra extremadamente dura usada figuradamente para expresar firmeza inquebrantable
חַלָּמִישׁ designa el pedernal, la piedra común más dura conocida en el mundo antiguo. En Deuteronomio 8:15, Dios hace brotar agua de la 'roca de pedernal' en el desierto, un acto magnificado por la notoria impermeabilidad de este material. Isaías 50:7 lo emplea como poderoso símil de determinación inquebrantable: 'Puse mi rostro como pedernal.' El español 'pedernal' y el inglés 'flint' convergen en la misma imagen mineralógica, mientras que las traducciones alemana y francesa dejan el hebreo sin traducir, subrayando la especificidad técnica del vocablo.
