A gentile adjective denoting membership in the clan of Heber, son of Beriah, from the tribe of Asher. The term appears in the wilderness census as 'the family of the Heberites,' one of the subdivisions counted in Israel's tribal organization. As with other gentile forms, the definite article makes it collective: not an individual but the clan as a whole. This census formula preserved the tribal structure through which land inheritance and covenant identity were maintained.
