Temblor, horror; objeto de terror o espanto, usado en fórmulas de maldición pactual para naciones entregadas al juicio.
Sustantivo femenino que designa temblor o estremecimiento y, por metonimia, aquello que provoca dicho horror: un objeto de espanto. Aparece casi exclusivamente en fórmulas de maldición donde Dios amenaza con convertir a Israel o a Jerusalén en motivo de terror para las naciones. Deuteronomio 28:25 establece el patrón: 'serás objeto de זְוָעָה para todos los reinos de la tierra'. Jeremías repite esta fórmula cuatro veces (15:4; 24:9; 29:18; 34:17), combinándola con términos de vergüenza, oprobio y maldición.
