walk, go about; Aramaic Haphel/Pael
An Aramaic verb describing movement and conduct. It appears in Daniel's vision of the fiery furnace, where four men 'walk' unharmed in the flames (Dan 3:25), and in the account of Nebuchadnezzar 'walking' on his palace roof (Dan 4:29) and later 'walking in pride' (Dan 4:37). The Spanish andan, paseando ('strolling, walking about') and the French/German glosses all emphasize literal or metaphorical movement. The verb can denote physical locomotion or ethical conduct ('walk in pride').
Senses
1. sense 1 — The verb appears in literal (Dan 3:25, 4:29) and metaphorical (Dan 4:37) walking contexts.
