Gihón -- (1) un río del Edén; (2) el manantial cerca de Jerusalén usado para la unción real
Gihón (que significa «un brotar», de la raíz g-y-ch «manar») designa dos fuentes de agua distintas en la Escritura. La primera es uno de los cuatro ríos del Edén (Gn 2:13), que se dice rodeaba la tierra de Cus, cuya identificación precisa ha sido largamente debatida. La segunda es el célebre manantial al este de Jerusalén, identificado hoy con la «Fuente de la Virgen» (Ain Umm ed-Daraj), cuyas aguas Ezequías canalizó a través de su famoso túnel (2 Cr 32:30). En este Gihón fue ungido Salomón como rey (1 R 1:33, 38, 45), deliberadamente fuera de las murallas en una ceremonia pública.
