Gezer — a fortified Canaanite city on the Ephraim-Judah border, later an Israelite Levitical city
Gezer was a strategically vital Canaanite city perched on the boundary between the coastal Shephelah and the hill country of Ephraim. Its king fell to Joshua at Lachish (Josh 10:33), yet Israel could not fully drive out its Canaanite inhabitants for centuries (Josh 16:10; Judg 1:29). Pharaoh eventually conquered and burned the city, handing it as a dowry to Solomon's Egyptian wife (1 Kgs 9:16–17). Assigned as a Levitical city (Josh 21:21), Gezer witnessed both David's victories over the Philistines (2 Sam 5:25; 1 Chr 14:16) and Solomon's ambitious building campaigns.
