Alto, elevado, erguido; en sentido figurado, altivo o soberbio de corazón
Adjetivo que abarca tanto la altura física como la arrogancia moral. Describe personas altas (Saúl en 1 S 9:2), árboles imponentes (Ez 31:3), montes elevados y muros fortificados. Sin embargo, sus usos teológicamente más significativos son figurados: el 'altivo de corazón' que el salmista no puede tolerar (Sal 101:5) y el 'de espíritu altanero' contrastado con el paciente (Ec 7:8). Proverbios 16:5 declara que todo corazón soberbio es abominación para el SEÑOR, lo que convierte a este adjetivo en un término clave de la crítica sapiencial contra la soberbia.

1. Altivo, soberbio — Altanero, orgulloso, arrogante en disposición — extensión figurada de la altura física a la autoexaltación moral. En Sal 101:5 el salmista jura no tolerar al 'altivo de corazón'; Pr 16:5 declara a tal persona abominación. Ec 7:8 contrasta al 'de espíritu altanero' con la paciencia.
