Daughter, female offspring or descendant; figuratively a dependent village or satellite town of a larger city.
Bath is the feminine counterpart to ben (son), denoting a female child in relation to her parents. Yet its semantic range stretches far beyond biology: 'daughters of Zion' means the women — or the community — belonging to Jerusalem, and 'daughter' as a vocative is a term of tender address (Ruth 2:8). Most strikingly, bath develops a geographic sense: the 'daughters' of a city are its surrounding unwalled villages, dependent on the fortified mother-city. Spanish translators capture this vividly, shifting from hija (daughter) to aldeas (villages) when the context demands it (Josh 17:11; Num 21:25).

Senses
1. daughter, female offspring A female child in relation to her parents; by extension granddaughter, female descendant, young woman, or woman belonging to a people or place ('daughter of Zion'). Rendered hija (Spa.), fille (Fra.), Tochter (Ger.) across 545 occurrences. Includes vocative address to a young woman (Ruth 2:8) and collective identity markers like 'daughters of Israel' (2 Sam 1:24; 1 Chr 3:5). 545×

2. dependent village, satellite town A dependent village or satellite settlement surrounding a larger fortified city, where the 'daughters' are unwalled towns economically and defensively tied to the mother-city. Spanish translators shift from hija to aldeas (villages) in these contexts, confirming the metaphorical leap from kinship to geography. Concentrated in conquest and settlement narratives (Num 21:25, 32; Josh 15:45; Josh 17:11; Judg 11:26). 44×
