Bet-Seán, ciudad fortificada en el territorio de Manasés, en el valle de Jezreel, al oeste del Jordán.
Nombre propio de lugar que significa «casa de reposo» o «casa de seguridad», designando una ciudad importante en la confluencia de los valles de Jezreel y del Jordán. Bet-Seán fue asignada a Manasés, pero nunca fue conquistada del todo (Jos 17:11, 16; Jue 1:27). Se hizo tristemente célebre como el sitio donde los filisteos colgaron los cuerpos de Saúl y sus hijos en la muralla (1 Sam 31:10, 12; 2 Sam 21:12). Salomón la convirtió después en centro administrativo (1 Re 4:12). Las traducciones interlingüísticas son notablemente uniformes, conservando el nombre compuesto en todos los idiomas.
