La preposición hebrea בֵּין marca el intervalo o espacio entre dos o más puntos, ya sean físicos, temporales o abstractos. Aparece más de 400 veces en la Biblia hebrea, estructurando distinciones tan fundamentales como la de la luz y las tinieblas (Gn 1:4) y la de las aguas de arriba y de abajo (Gn 1:6). Con sufijos pronominales y en construcciones como מִבֵּין («de entre»), transmite un posicionamiento relacional matizado. Los cognados en arameo, siríaco y árabe confirman su pedigrí pansemítico como la palabra por excelencia para «entre».
