En la consagración de Aarón y sus hijos, la sangre de la ofrenda se aplica al pulgar derecho y al dedo gordo del pie derecho (Éx 29:20; Lv 8:23-24). El mismo ritual aparece en la purificación de leprosos sanados, donde el aceite y la sangre marcan estas extremidades como señales de limpieza (Lv 14:14, 17, 25, 28). Fuera de la ley ritual, la forma plural aparece llamativamente en Jueces 1:6-7, donde los pulgares y dedos gordos cortados de Adoni-bezec se convierten en evidencia de justicia retributiva.
