Bestia, animal, ganado — criatura terrestre grande, salvaje o domesticada; colectivamente, ganado o animales en general.
בְּהֵמָה es uno de los términos zoológicos más comunes de la Biblia hebrea, cubriendo desde las bestias salvajes hasta el ganado de labranza. En los relatos de la creación (Gn 1:24-25), designa toda una categoría de criaturas terrestres distinta de las aves y los reptiles. Sin embargo, en las leyes sobre el descanso sabático (Éx 20:10) y la propiedad (Gn 36:6), la misma palabra se estrecha para referirse al ganado doméstico — las reses y el ganado del que depende una familia. Las traducciones alemanas lo ilustran con nitidez: 'Tier' para la bestia genérica, pero 'Vieh' para el ganado en propiedad. El célebre plural בְּהֵמוֹת en Job 40:15 recurre a la acepción más amplia de este vocablo para nombrar a una criatura de poder incomprensible.
