Terror repentino, espanto o calamidad — ruina alarmante que golpea sin previo aviso
Designa un terror súbito y abrumador, o una ruina catastrófica que sobrecoge a sus víctimas con rapidez impactante. En Levítico 26:16 encabeza una lista de maldiciones del pacto que Dios impondrá a los desobedientes. El Salmo 78:33 lo empareja con la futilidad: años consumidos «en terror repentino». Isaías 65:23 promete que los redimidos no engendrarán hijos «para calamidad», revirtiendo así la maldición. El cognado asirio beltu («terror») confirma el pavor visceral que esta palabra transmite. Las traducciones multilingües apuntan uniformemente a un miedo desestabilizador y alarmante.
