Designa un racimo de uvas, célebre sobre todo por el enorme racimo que los espías israelitas trajeron del valle de Escol (Nm 13:23-24), el cual dio nombre al valle. La palabra aparece tanto en contextos agrícolas literales — el copero del faraón ve racimos madurando en su sueño (Gn 40:10) — como en un rico uso figurado: al amado se le compara con racimos de flores de alheña (Cnt 1:14; 7:8-9), mientras que Deuteronomio 32:32 emplea 'racimos de hiel' para condenar a los enemigos de Israel. El término español 'racimo' y el francés 'grappe' confirman el significado central en diversas lenguas.
