Deseo, anhelo, apetencia; un querer intenso o apetito, ya sea natural, regio o divino.
El sustantivo femenino ʾavvāh designa un deseo intenso o apetencia, que aparece casi siempre en la construcción 'el deseo del alma'. En Deuteronomio expresa el apetito natural y moralmente neutro por la carne cuando se vive lejos del santuario (Dt 12:15, 20, 21) y el anhelo sincero del levita por servir en el lugar escogido (Dt 18:6). En 1 Samuel 23:20 describe la determinación regia de Saúl por capturar a David. Oseas 10:10 lo aplica a la voluntad deliberada de Dios mismo.
