A poetic term for the fresh greenness of young plants, the tender stage when vegetation is still lush and growing. Job 8:12 uses it to describe reeds still in their greenness, cut down before harvest—an image of premature destruction. Song of Songs 6:11 mentions going down to see the fresh shoots by the brook, checking whether vines have budded and pomegranates bloomed. Both uses capture springtime vitality, the promise of life before it's fully matured.
