1. time, period, duration — Chronos denotes time as a measurable extent or duration, in contrast to kairos which emphasizes the qualitative character of a moment. It appears in the NT both in singular ('a long time,' 'after some time,' 'the time of the star,' Matt 2:7, 2:16) and in plural ('times,' 'periods,' Luke 8:29, 20:9, Acts 1:7, 1 Pet 1:20, Jude 18). The semantic content is uniform across all occurrences: Arabic 'zaman / azminah,' Hebrew 'zman / z'manim,' Korean 'ttae / shigan,' Hindi 'samay,' German 'Zeit,' Spanish 'tiempo/tiempos,' French 'temps.' The auto-clustering split singular from plural and isolated two single occurrences, but these are purely grammatical number distinctions, not different lexicographic senses. Whether referring to the duration Herod inquired about (Matt 2:7), the long time a demoniac suffered (Luke 8:29), or the times and seasons God has set (Acts 1:7), the underlying concept of temporal duration remains constant. 54×
