Place — a physical location, region, or designated spot; sometimes a position, opportunity, or space in a figurative sense
Topos is the standard Greek word for 'place' in both its literal and extended senses. In the Gospels it designates specific geographic locations — the 'deserted place' where Jesus feeds the multitude (Matt 14:13, 15), Golgotha 'the place called the Skull' (Matt 27:33), and the 'holy place' of Daniel's prophecy (Matt 24:15). Acts and the Epistles occasionally extend it toward 'opportunity' or 'position' ('give place to wrath,' Rom 12:19; 'give no place to the devil,' Eph 4:27). Revelation deploys it cosmically: the places of heaven and earth (Rev 6:14; 12:8; 20:11). Spanish 'lugar,' French 'lieu,' and German 'Ort' parallel this range from concrete geography to abstract opportunity.

Senses
1. place, location, position A physical location, spot, region, or designated area, covering the full range from specific named sites to general spaces. In the Gospels topos identifies particular locations in the narrative landscape — deserted places (Matt 14:13), holy places (Matt 24:15), and named localities (Matt 27:33). Epistolary usage extends toward abstract 'room' or 'opportunity' — giving no place to the devil (Eph 4:27). Spanish 'lugar,' French 'lieu,' and German 'Ort' all preserve this literal-to-figurative gradient across the word's 94 occurrences. 94×
