Greek stoma refers to the mouth as a physical organ and, by natural extension, to the speech and testimony that proceed from it. Jesus declares that what defiles a person comes out of the mouth, not into it (Matt 15:11), making stoma the locus of moral self-revelation. The phrase 'out of the mouth of babes' (Matt 21:16, quoting Ps 8:2) shows the metonymic leap from organ to utterance. In Revelation, a sharp sword emerges from Christ's mouth (Rev 1:16), an image where physical organ and divine word fuse. Translations are straightforward — Spanish boca, French bouche, German Mund — yet the theological uses press far beyond anatomy.
