hurry, hasten, make speed
1. hurry, hasten, make speed To move with urgency or speed, to hasten or hurry toward a destination or action. All New Testament occurrences share this core meaning of eager, rapid movement or urgent action. The shepherds hurried to find the infant Jesus (Luke 2:16), Jesus commanded Zacchaeus to come down quickly (Luke 19:5-6), Paul was hastening to reach Jerusalem by Pentecost (Acts 20:16), the Lord commanded Paul to hurry out of Jerusalem (Acts 22:18), and believers are to hasten the coming of the Day of God (2 Pet 3:12). The Hebrew equivalents are consistently maher/miher (to hurry). The differences between clusters are merely inflectional (aorist participle, present participle, imperative, imperfect indicative) rather than semantic.
