Sion; el monte santo y ciudad de Jerusalén, usado literal y simbólicamente para la morada de Dios y la ciudad celestial.
Σιών es la transliteración griega del hebreo צִיּוֹן, originalmente la fortaleza jebusea conquistada por David, que llegó a ser sinónimo de Jerusalén, el monte del templo y, en última instancia, el lugar escogido por Dios para habitar. En el Nuevo Testamento aparece exclusivamente en citas del Antiguo Testamento y declaraciones teológicas. Mateo 21:5 y Juan 12:15 citan Zacarías 9:9 sobre la «hija de Sion», mientras que Romanos 9:33 y 1 Pedro 2:6 citan a Isaías sobre la piedra angular puesta «en Sion». Hebreos 12:22 y Apocalipsis 14:1 elevan a Sion a una realidad celestial: «el monte Sion, la ciudad del Dios vivo».
