Sidonian, of or from Sidon; relating to the ancient Phoenician coastal city
Σιδώνιος is the adjectival form referring to people or things from Sidon (Σιδών), the ancient Phoenician port city on the Mediterranean coast north of Israel. Sidonians were known throughout the ancient world for maritime trade, craftsmanship (especially purple dye), and unfortunately for Israel's history, for Baal worship that seduced Israel through Jezebel. The term appears in Jesus' ministry when he visits Sidonian territory and in Acts when Herod Agrippa faces an angry Sidonian delegation. Despite their pagan heritage, Jesus found more faith in this region than in many Israelite towns.

Sentidos
1. sense 1 Luke 4:26 references the widow of Zarephath in the land of Sidon to whom Elijah was sent—a Gentile woman who demonstrated greater faith than many in Israel. Acts 12:20 describes the people of Tyre and Sidon seeking peace with Herod because their regions depended on his territory for food. Both uses highlight Gentile interaction with God's redemptive work, whether through prophetic miracle or political necessity.
