ὀπτᾰσία G3701
A vision; a supernatural appearance or revelatory sight from God
Refers to a divine visual revelation — something seen that carries a message from God. When Zechariah lingers in the temple and emerges unable to speak, the people realize he has seen a vision (Luke 1:22). The women at the empty tomb report a 'vision of angels' who declared Jesus alive (Luke 24:23). Paul recounts before Agrippa that he was 'not disobedient to the heavenly vision' on the Damascus road (Acts 26:19), and in 2 Corinthians 12:1 he mentions 'visions and revelations of the Lord.' Spanish visión/visiones, French vision, and the consistent cross-linguistic agreement confirm a single, well-defined sense of supernatural sight.
Senses
1. sense 1 — A supernatural vision or divine appearance in which God communicates through what is seen. Zechariah's speechlessness confirms to the waiting crowd that he has received a vision in the temple (Luke 1:22). The women at the tomb report a vision of angels announcing the resurrection (Luke 24:23). Paul describes his Damascus road encounter as a 'heavenly vision' to which he could not be disobedient (Acts 26:19), and in 2 Cor 12:1 he pairs visions with revelations as categories of divine disclosure. Spanish visión and French vision uniformly confirm this as a technical term for God-given supernatural sight. 4×
