Oikia denotes a physical house or dwelling — the building where one lives, eats, and gathers. Jesus builds his parable of the wise and foolish builders around the oikia set on rock or sand (Matt 7:24-27), and the magi enter the oikia to find the child Jesus (Matt 2:11). In a small but meaningful extension, oikia can refer to the household — the people who constitute a family unit rather than the building itself.
