A place where one dwells or resides. Paul uses it in 2 Corinthians 5:2 to describe believers' heavenly dwelling—'our dwelling from heaven'—which they long to put on over their earthly tent. Jude uses it in condemning fallen angels who 'abandoned their proper dwelling' (Jude 1:6), departing from their assigned place to transgress boundaries. Both contexts emphasize the dwelling as assigned, proper location—either the heavenly home awaiting believers or the heavenly realm angels abandoned in rebellion.
