Myra, a major city and port of Lycia in southern Asia Minor
This proper noun designates an important coastal city in Lycia where Paul changed ships during his voyage to Rome. In Acts 27:5, Luke records their arrival at Myra after sailing across the sea along Cilicia and Pamphylia. The multilingual evidence simply transliterates the place name. Myra was a significant port for ships traveling between the eastern Mediterranean and Rome, making it a natural transfer point. Archaeological remains reveal its importance as a commercial and cultural center.

Senses
1. sense 1 Acts 27:5 marks Myra as the location where Paul's party transferred to an Alexandrian grain ship bound for Rome. The cross-linguistic glosses preserve the proper name through transliteration. Luke's precision reflects the standard navigation routes: coastal sailing brought them to Myra, a major Lycian port. There the centurion found the larger grain ship that would carry them toward Italy and ultimately shipwreck. Myra's role as a transfer hub situates Paul's journey within the commercial networks of the Roman empire.
