Korinthos -- Corinth, the wealthy Greek commercial city on the isthmus, site of a major Pauline church
Korinthos is the proper name of the ancient Greek city of Corinth, strategically situated on the narrow isthmus linking the Peloponnese to mainland Greece. Renowned in antiquity for its commerce, wealth, and moral permissiveness, it became the site of one of the apostle Paul's most significant and tumultuous church plants. Paul arrived there from Athens (Acts 18:1), stayed eighteen months, and later wrote at least two major epistles to the Corinthian congregation (1 Cor 1:2; 2 Cor 1:1). The name passes unchanged across languages -- Spanish Corinto, French Corinthe, German Korinth -- as proper nouns do.

Senses
1. Korinthos The proper name of the city of Corinth, the prosperous Greek commercial center on the isthmus, where Paul established a church during his second missionary journey (Acts 18:1). Its six NT occurrences cluster around the narrative of Paul's ministry and his correspondence with the Corinthian believers (1 Cor 1:2; 2 Cor 1:1, 23; 2 Tim 4:20). All target languages preserve the toponym with minimal phonetic adaptation -- Spanish Corinto, French Corinthe, German Korinth -- confirming a single proper-noun referent.
