A young girl, maiden; a diminutive term for a female child or adolescent.
Korasion is a diminutive of kore ('girl, maiden') and refers to a young girl or female child. In the Gospels it appears exclusively in two narrative contexts: the raising of Jairus's daughter, where Jesus addresses the dead girl tenderly (Matt 9:24-25; Mark 5:41-42), and the story of Herodias's daughter dancing before Herod (Matt 14:11; Mark 6:22, 28). The German 'Maedchen' is itself a diminutive (from 'Magd'), making it an especially apt equivalent that preserves the affectionate or informal register of the Greek original.
