Crédito, honor, gloria o buena reputación merecida por acciones dignas
Este sustantivo designa la buena fama, el honor o la gloria que se obtiene mediante obras dignas. En 1 Pedro 2:20, el apóstol pregunta retóricamente qué mérito o gloria hay en soportar castigo por haber obrado mal, contrastándolo con la alabanza que proviene de sufrir injustamente. El punto de Pedro es que solo el sufrimiento inmerecido, soportado con paciencia siguiendo el ejemplo de Cristo, obtiene la aprobación divina y la verdadera gloria ante Dios.
