A small village in Galilee, remembered as the setting for Jesus' first public sign — turning water into wine at a wedding feast (John 2:1-11). John's Gospel returns to Cana as a geographic marker: Jesus is there when he heals the royal official's son at Capernaum from a distance (John 4:46), and Nathanael is identified as being from Cana (John 21:2). The name is rendered consistently across languages — Spanish and German Kaná, French Cana — reflecting its indeclinable Semitic origin.
