Templo — el recinto sagrado de Jerusalén, especialmente el complejo del templo con sus atrios, pórticos y santuario
ἱερόν se refiere al complejo entero del templo de Jerusalén —sus atrios, columnatas y recintos sagrados—, a diferencia de ναός, que designa únicamente el santuario interior. Cuando Jesús expulsa a los cambistas, entra en el ἱερόν (Mt 21:12; Mc 11:15), la amplia zona pública donde se realizaba el comercio y la enseñanza. Es en el ἱερόν donde Jesús enseña diariamente (Lc 19:47; 21:37), donde la iglesia primitiva se reúne tras Pentecostés (Hch 2:46; 5:20-21), y donde Pablo es apresado por la turba (Hch 21:27-30). El diablo sitúa a Jesús en el pináculo del ἱερόν durante la tentación (Mt 4:5; Lc 4:9).
