Jericó; la antigua ciudad fortificada cerca del río Jordán, prominente en la conquista del AT y en los relatos evangélicos del NT.
Ἰεριχώ es la forma griega indeclinable del hebreo Yerijó, la antigua ciudad en el bajo valle del Jordán. En el AT es la primera ciudad conquistada tras el Éxodo (Jos 6), y Hebreos 11:30 recuerda cómo sus muros cayeron por la fe. En los Evangelios, Jericó se encuentra en el último tramo del camino de Jesús hacia Jerusalén: allí sana al ciego Bartimeo (Mt 20:29; Mc 10:46; Lc 18:35), se encuentra con Zaqueo (Lc 19:1) y sitúa la parábola del buen samaritano en el peligroso camino de Jericó (Lc 10:30).
