Ciudad de la región de Lidia en Asia Menor, Tiatira era famosa por sus gremios comerciales y especialmente por su industria del tinte púrpura, el mismo oficio que ejercía Lidia, la primera conversa europea de Pablo (Hch 16:14). En Apocalipsis es la cuarta de las siete iglesias a las que se dirige, recibiendo tanto elogio por sus obras crecientes como una severa reprensión por tolerar a la falsa profetisa 'Jezabel' (Ap 2:18-24). El nombre se translitea uniformemente en español como 'Tiatira.'
