El sustantivo masculino θρόνος ('trono') designa un asiento de autoridad real o divina: tanto la silla de estado como, por metonimia, el poder soberano que representa. Sus 63 apariciones neotestamentarias son abrumadoramente teológicas: el trono de Dios en el cielo (Mt 5:34; Ap 4:2-6), el trono escatológico de gloria de Cristo (Mt 25:31), los doce tronos de los apóstoles (Mt 19:28) y el trono dinástico de David heredado por el Mesías (Lc 1:32; Hch 2:30).
