N-GMS  |  17× in 1 sense
Treasure, stored wealth; a storehouse or repository of valuable things, whether material or spiritual.
Thēsauros denotes both the treasure itself and the place where it is kept — a storehouse or treasury. Jesus uses it in the Sermon on the Mount to contrast earthly treasure, vulnerable to moth and rust, with imperishable treasure in heaven (Matt 6:19-21). He also speaks of the heart as a thēsauros from which good or evil flows (Matt 12:35; Luke 6:45). The Magi open their treasure chests before the infant Christ (Matt 2:11). Paul speaks of 'treasures of wisdom and knowledge' hidden in Christ (Col 2:3). Spanish 'tesoro,' French 'trésor,' and German 'Schatz' all preserve the dual sense of valuables and their container.

Senses
1. treasure, stored wealth A treasure or storehouse of accumulated wealth, used both literally of material riches and figuratively of spiritual realities. The Magi open their thēsauroi at the nativity (Matt 2:11). Jesus contrasts treasure on earth with treasure in heaven (Matt 6:19-21) and describes the heart as a treasury of good or evil (Matt 12:35; Luke 6:45). Paul locates all treasures of wisdom in Christ (Col 2:3). The word covers both the valuable contents and the repository that holds them, as the parable of hidden treasure in a field shows (Matt 13:44). 17×
